How IUI works
A fertility team places prepared sperm inside the uterus around ovulation. If fertilisation occurs, it takes place inside the body. The team may monitor ovulation or discuss medicines depending on the case.
How IVF works
In IVF, a team collects eggs and combines them with sperm in a laboratory. If embryos develop, the team discusses transfer or freezing as appropriate. IVF involves different appointments and procedures from IUI.
Why suitability varies
The reason for fertility difficulties, test results, age and previous treatment can influence which approach is considered. Ask what alternatives exist and why an option is being proposed for you.
What to ask the centre
Confirm where procedures and monitoring happen, costs, potential risks and how the centre explains outcomes. Arrange procedures through an appropriately equipped fertility centre.
