What the camera helps a surgeon see

A laparoscope passes through a small abdominal incision and allows the surgeon to view pelvic organs. Other small incisions may be used for instruments when treatment is planned.

When a procedure may be considered

Persistent symptoms, selected ovarian cysts or endometriosis may lead to a surgical discussion. The surgeon reviews imaging and previous treatments to decide what information or benefit a procedure might offer.

Ask what the surgeon intends to do, what alternatives are reasonable and which findings might change the operation. Discuss anaesthesia, possible complications and where the procedure will take place.

Planning for recovery

Confirm travel, follow-up and restrictions with the hospital. Ask which symptoms after surgery need urgent assessment and how to reach the care team.
