Recognise the transition
Perimenopause can bring changes in periods before they stop. Hot flushes, sleep changes and vaginal dryness can occur. The combination and duration of symptoms vary.
Describe the impact
Note what happens, when it happens and how it affects sleep, work or relationships. A discussion can focus on whichever symptoms cause the most difficulty.
What to ask about management
Ask about practical changes, non-hormonal options and whether hormone therapy might suit your health history. Discuss benefits, risks and how the effect of any treatment will be reviewed.
When bleeding needs attention
Bleeding after menopause should be assessed promptly, even if it is light. If you are unsure whether a change is expected, contact a clinician for advice.
