Find your previous results
Bring previous cervical screening results and HPV vaccination records if you have them. Mention any abnormal results or follow-up that was recommended. Local guidance and your history help determine timing.
What cervical screening is for
Screening looks for changes or risk factors that can be followed up before cervical cancer develops. Ask which test is offered, what the result means and how results will be communicated.
Tell the clinician about symptoms
Bleeding after sex or between periods, persistent pain or unusual discharge should be discussed separately. A clinician can advise which examination or investigation is appropriate.
Ask about the next step
Before leaving, ask when to expect results, whom to call with questions and when to schedule follow-up if needed.
